The Challenge

Bloomberg clients — from new apprentices to experienced analysts — needed training on the Terminal’s equity capabilities. Training needed to be practical, relevant, and adapted to vastly different skill levels.

My Role

I delivered regular in-person and virtual training sessions to equity clients, ranging from one-on-one desk-side coaching to formal classroom sessions. I also led the introduction to equities session for Bloomberg’s new apprentice hire cohort.

Training Philosophy

I developed an approach built on three principles:

Start with their problem. Every session began with understanding what the client was actually trying to achieve — not what I assumed they needed.

Build from the familiar. For apprentices with no finance background, I used everyday analogies before introducing financial concepts. For experienced analysts, I connected new functions to workflows they already used.

Make it stick. Rather than covering every function, I focused on the 3–5 changes that would have the biggest immediate impact on their daily work.

Topics Covered

  • Fundamental data functions and financial statement analysis
  • Equity screening and comparables (EQS, RV)
  • BQL fundamentals for automated data extraction
  • Custom workflow building with Launchpad
  • Best practices for estimates and modelling

The Results

  • Delivered 100+ training sessions across desk-side, virtual, and classroom formats
  • Led apprentice induction training — often the first exposure new hires had to equity analysis on the Terminal
  • Consistently positive feedback on clarity, relevance, and practical usefulness of sessions
