Early Careers Outreach

The Challenge

Bloomberg needed to attract diverse talent into its apprenticeship and early careers programmes. This meant reaching students who might not naturally consider financial services — and presenting the industry in a way that felt accessible and genuine.

My Role

I represented Bloomberg at multiple early careers events, speaking to students about the financial services sector, degree apprenticeship routes, and my own journey from sixth form to Equity Specialist.

Events

Ascot Racecourse Careers Fair — Spoke to hundreds of students about Bloomberg’s apprenticeship programme, answering questions about day-to-day work, qualifications needed, and career progression.

Excel London Careers Event — Represented Bloomberg at one of the UK’s largest student careers events, engaging with students from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines.

Kirkham Grammar School — Invited back to my former school to speak to Year 11–13 students. This was particularly meaningful — being able to show students from my own background that a career in financial services was achievable without a university degree.

My Approach

I structured my talks around three messages:

Financial services is broader than you think — it’s not all investment banking and trading floors
Degree apprenticeships are a viable alternative to university — you can earn, learn, and build a career simultaneously
Your background doesn’t define your ceiling — I started at 18 with no finance experience

The Results

Represented Bloomberg at multiple high-profile careers events
Personally invited back to Kirkham Grammar School after positive feedback from students and staff
Multiple students reported applying to Bloomberg programmes after attending talks
